Gohar Goddard

Fine Art/Textiles

Profile

Gohar was born in Persia (now Iran) and spent her childhood years in France and Pakistan, soaking up the diverse visual language of those cultures.

She settled in England in 1967 and trained as a ceramicist. In 1985, Gohar opened Ziggurat, the luxury yarn store in Kensington. Ten years later, Gohar’s love of beautiful yarns, textiles and colour led her to establish the English Weather clothing label, known for its unusual cashmere designs.

Recently, Gohar has moved more towards painting, gaining inspiration from the work of Matisse, Klee and Tapies. A trip to Cornwall introduced her to fellow colourists, William Scott and Roger Hilton.

‘I am first and foremost a colourist. When I start painting, I begin by mixing colour, trying out new combinations of tints. I apply layer upon layer of these experimental pigments to the canvas, building up texture that appeals…’

Coastal Gallery is delighted to exhibit a selection of Gohar’s stunning work. Please contact us for further details.
