A frantic but very exciting and rewarding few days spent at Palais des Vaches, Lower Exbury Farm, Exbury, working alongside Nick and Caroline de Rothschild and their team. The much anticipated Anthony Lawrence retrospective exhibition, curated by his journalist daughter Sarah, is looking stunning. It was enjoyed this morning by members of the local and national press, as were the delicious coffees, pastries and cakes created by @bunniesbakebox - see the final photograph in this series :). Stewart and I are thrilled to have incorporated paintings by Caroline de Rothschild and John Ilsley, with sculptures by Geoffrey Dashwood, into our Coastal Gallery gallery spaces, and several striking pieces by Ingrid Sterling into the Anthony Lawrence show. Yesterday’s excitement was the delivery of two new sculptures by Michael Turner, including a magnificent chameleon on a driftwood base. The exhibitions open to the public tomorrow and Sunday from 11am to 4pm. It’s been a busy time at Coastal Gallery at Palais des Vaches this last few weeks with the arrival of wonderful new work. This includes stunning sculpture by London-based sculptor Ingrid Sterling, beautiful vessels by ceramicist, Wendy Farley and a fabulous framed limited edition screen print, ‘Kent State’ (1970) by iconic pop artist, Richard Hamilton. Ingrid uses glass, bronze, marble and resin to create her pieces, many of which feature the classical human figure but with a subtle twist. Wendy draws inspiration for her ceramics from patterns in sand, rock formations and the colours of coastal landscapes. The Richard Hamilton framed screen print is available to buy this weekend through a collaboration with Sims Reed Gallery, London. We also feature etchings by David Hockney and screen prints by Patrick Caulfield. If you’re looking for a unique statement piece for your home or workspace, look no further than these wonderfully detailed oil on canvas paintings by locally based artist, Chris Whittaker. Chris studied painting at Bournemouth College of Art, moving on to an illustrious career as creative director of a leading advertising agency in London. Returning to the south coast to ‘retire’, Chris dusted off his paints and brushes, set up a studio in his garage and ‘the rest is history’. Chris’s paintings, usually a metre square, are inspired by his garden and local surroundings - in Chris’s words, he likes to paint ‘the messy bits and details that no one notices’.
