Coastal Art

With the election now over and spring upon us we have plenty of new arrivals to inspire ! Last week we received a series of beautiful and evocative paintings by Jennie Slater – these atmospheric seascapes capture the real essence of the sea. Jennie’s work has been widely exhibited in London and the South East including Cork Street, The Royal College of Art, and the Affordable Art Fair. We also have more delightful seascapes by Claire Wiltsher and Paul Bennett, contemporary photography by Baxter Bradford and Claire Gill – giving a real breadth of choice for marine inspired art.

The Luxury of Art

With Spring now with us many of our customers have been visiting for inspiration and ideas for new interior design schemes. It is interesting to hear about all the different projects but most of all the difference a well chosen piece of art or sculpture can make. Building an art collection has long been seen as a preserve for only the very wealthy – but collecting art is fast becoming an interesting and pleasurable investment for many more people today. Coastal Gallery continues to provide a well edited collection of top artists and sculptors – Martyn Brewster, Stephen Powell, Ingrid Sterling, Gohar Goddard and Claire Wiltsher to name just a few. So do pop in and view all our latest arrivals and enjoy the journey of collecting contemporary art !

Spring in Lymington

The recent warm weather has put spring very much to the fore, and many of our regular customers have visited the gallery to view ideas for updating and refreshing their homes. Coastal inspired art by Claire Wiltsher, Claire Gill, Jenny Slater and Paul Bennett have received much attention along with strong abstracts by Stephen Powell, Jason Miller and Biddy Hodgkinson. It is very encouraging that Coastal Gallery is still being discovered by locals and visitors alike – delighted that we exhibit “something different” and of a high quality. We look forward to welcoming many more !

The Coastal Gallery Abstract Award & The Observatory

We are thrilled to be sponsoring a major prize in this years “Open” at St Barbe Museum & Art Gallery in Lymington – the Coastal Gallery Abstract Award. Keep a look out on the St Barbe Museum web site for entry details ! We are also sponsoring The Observatory & Artist Residences when it comes to Lymington in July. This is an exciting project founded by the SPUD group based in Sway and involved a carefully selected group of participating artists producing new work whilst ‘in residence’ at the intriguing ‘observatories’ – more information: www.lookinlookout.org. Happy Easter!

Martyn Brewster Studio Visit

We were thrilled to visit Martyn Brewster’s studio on monday and select new work for Coastal Gallery – what a treat ! It was fascinating to view all the current paintings he is developing and to review work being prepared for us from his ‘Headland’ and ‘Coastal Light’ series – we have selected some truly special new paintings which are now at the gallery and will receive more over the coming weeks.

Ideas and Inspiration

We have been really touched by recent visitors who have found ‘that perfect gift’ at Coastal Gallery or an unusual piece of Contemporary Art for their home. Jewellery by designer Jo Vane has been particularly popular along with the gorgeous soaps by Caroline Rothschild – which also fill the gallery with a wonderful fragrance ! Spring is definitely in the air and so the gallery is full of new arrivals from all our artists and designers – ready to inspire you for your spring interior schemes !

Art for Spring

2015 is well underway and Spring is now in the air – so our minds turn to new ideas for refreshing the home ! We have two wonderful new artists – Jason Miller and Paul Bennett – so do look out for all our ‘whats happening’ updates and images on facebook & twitter. New work has also arrived from Stephen Powell which is full of impact and colour with a really contemporary feel. All our exciting new gifts – such as cashmere scarves from Gohar Goddard and luxury soaps from Caroline Rothschild are doing very well – do come and visit us soon to look at these and gather some new ideas for restyling your home for Spring !

Jason Miller – New Paintings and Sculpture

Dorset artist Jason Miller is now exhibiting his large abstract paintings and smaller sculptures at Coastal Gallery. His paintings study the local marine light in pared down compositions with a sense of calm tranquil resolution. Jason has a major exhibition running at the Lighthouse Gallery in Poole until Sunday 15th March. Come and see these beautiful new works at Coastal Gallery soon !

New Artists

This week we will be receiving the work of two new artists – Paul Bennett and Jason Miller. Jason has an exhibition currently running at the Lighthouse gallery in Poole where his abstract studies of colour and light are complemented by his sculptures which we will also be featuring at Coastal Gallery soon. We have already previewed one of Paul Bennett’s paintings on our Facebook page to much acclaim – and will be uploading more images as soon as they arrive – hopefully by the weekend !
