ARTFUL GIFTS FOR CHRISTMAS

December is finally here and we will be featuring gift ideas from Coastal Gallery to inspire and delight — for you, your family or friends ! We have a wide range of recycled sterling silver designer jewellery from Jo Vane including the exclusive ‘wave’ collection inspired by the local coastline — from a statement ‘cuff’ at £475 to a beautiful necklace at £575. Jackie Giron makes the most stunning ceramic ‘sea bowls’ and we have a great collection of these now available from £25 to £295 — perfect for a truly ‘one off’ gift. Why not choose a present together which will be admired and treasured for years to come ? Original seascapes by local artist Claire Wiltsher are always a popular choice which work so well ‘at home’ — we have a good range of these on exhibition from £850 to £1750 for a 100cm X 100cm mixed media original.

We will share further ideas in the coming weeks for every budget from £16 to over £12,000.

Sotheby’s – David Bowie / PACE gallery – Brian Clarke

Last week I visited two great exhibitions in London – the first ‘Bowie / Collector’ was at Sotheby’s at a preview by the curator of the personal art collection of David Bowie – this was a truly fascinating insight into his eclectic tastes. Favourites included ‘Air Power’ by Jean-Michel Basquiat and ‘Parent I’ by Dame Barbara Hepworth. The first auction of Modern & Contemporary Art is being held this Thursday at 7pm — watch out for the results ! The second exhibition was ‘ Night Orchids’ at PACE gallery and featured new paintings by Brian Clarke which were stunning — followed on thursday by a lecture at Salisbury Cathedral by Brian on his incredible stained glass projects including collaborations with Sir Norman Foster & the late Dame Zaha Hadid. Back at Coastal Gallery we have received great new work by Julie Collins and Stephen Powell – come and see these and more from all our gallery artists as we prepare for Christmas at Coastal!
